The Meadows at Montezuma Castle

For this painting I wanted to capture the play of light and shadows across the spring grass and the quiet wisdom of the ancient birches. This scene is at the base of Montezuma Castle in Arizona which has been inhabited for thousands of years. Who knows how many people have enjoyed this beautiful scene- possibly across thousands of years- before I came to paint it.
